Wetland Cities
Wetland City recognition is awarded to cities that make significant contributions to preserving their wetlands. As cities expand and demand for land increases, the tendency to encroach upon wetlands also rises, Cities that have protected their urban wetlands applied for Wetland City status and were selected from among them.. Udaipur the city of Lakes, is surrounded by five major lakes : Pichola, Fatehsagar and Doodh Talai. Menar in the district, is known as Bird Village, attracting thousands of migratory birds. Wetland sites are located along the shores of these lakes. Udaipur met all necessary criteria to achieve this recognition. The wetlands in and around these cities provide numerous benefits to citizens, including food regulation, livelihood opportunities and recreational and cultural values.
